Evangelist Mary Elizabeth Alexander

Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Mary Elizabeth Alexander Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Alexander, affectionately known as “Mae Liz,” departed her earthly journey on August 29, 2026, at the age of 86, surrounded by unwavering love, praise, and worship. Born on January 16, 1940, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Mrs. Mary was the beloved daughter of the late Lula B. Hardy and Sam Hardy, Sr. She attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System and was a proud, lifelong resident of the Boston Cherry Street community, where she became a pillar of the neighborhood she loved. Mrs. Mary never met a stranger. Whether you had known her for years or had just crossed her path, she welcomed you with kindness, compassion, and a listening ear. She had a way of making people feel seen, loved, and important. Her home was always open, her heart was always full, and if you needed prayer, encouragement, or simply someone to listen, she was there. To know Mrs. Mary was to know genuine love. After retiring from Dr. Thomas Littlejohn, Mrs. Mary followed another passion by becoming an entrepreneur and founding Mary’s Heavenly Delights. She became well known for her homemade sweet potato pies, cobblers, cakes, and other baked goods that brought smiles to many. For Mrs. Mary, baking wasn’t just about dessert—it was another way to love on people. Her greatest calling, however, was serving the Lord.Mrs. Mary was a faithful and devoted member of New Direction Movement Cathedral, where she faithfully served as an Evangelist, The Ministers Group, Superintendent of the Sunday School Department, and on the Pastor’s Aid Auxiliary. She loved preaching and teaching the Gospel to anyone who would listen. She believed there was never a wrong time to tell someone about Jesus Christ, her lord and Savior. She prayed for the sick, encouraged the discouraged, and never missed an opportunity to remind someone that God was able. Because of her unwavering faith and boldness for Christ, her pastor affectionately nicknamed her “Cherry Street Moses.” Nothing meant more to Mrs. Mary than her faith and her family. She loved deeply, gave freely, and taught those around her to love one another, treat people right, and always put God first. Her life was a beautiful example of compassion, humility, service, and unwavering faith. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of fifty-two years, Timothy J. Alexander, Sr.; her cherished daughter, Joya Hardy; her brothers, Theodore Hardy, Sam Hardy, and Grady Hardy; and her sisters, Lillie Bonner, Ophelia Hardy, Mamie Caldwell, and Catherine Mack. Mrs. Mary leaves to cherish her precious memory her devoted children, Pamela R. Lindsay, Timothy J. Alexander, Jr., Tamara R.Alexander; her fiancé Wesley Clowers, Jr., and the granddaughter she raised from birth as her own, Kondra Wilkes Truesdale. She also leaves to cherish her memory her beloved grandchildren: Terrance, James, Resha, Darmesha, Darryl, Davarius, Toria, Robin, Malaysia, Jalen, Serenity, Zola, Na’Kya, Ja’Haun, Ja’Leya, and Jasmine. Her love and legacy continue through her treasured great-grandchildren: Rowu, Rylan, Chrisalynn, Kaleel, Kinsley, Arianna, DJ, Dasia, No’vah, Konnor, Samara, Ja’Howard, and Jah’Juan. She is also survived by her sisters, Evelyn Conrad and Burnu (Joseph) Rucker; and her lifelong best friend, Annie Ruth Campbell. Mrs. Mary often reminded those around her: “This ain’t no time to play.”, “Give God some of your time.”, “I put it all in his hands”, and “Let go and let God.”Even during her final season of life, her faith remained unshaken. She continued believing God for healing, trusting His perfect will, and singing one of her favorite songs: “I wanna live so God can use me… anytime… anyplace… and anywhere.”
