Donna Faye McCombs

Ms. Donna Faye McCombs of High Point NC, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 26, 2016 at High Point Regional Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Felice and Lucille Love and was born on December 28, 1953. Donna was formerly a long time member of St. Mary’s United Methodist Church in Trinity, NC and was currently a member of New Hope Community Fellowship Church in Archdale, NC. “Faye” grew up in Trinity, NC and was educated in the Randolph County School System. She took enormous pride in sharing that she was one of the first black children to assist with the desegregation process in her younger years. While attending Trinity High School she even participated as a cheerleader for the football and basketball teams. For approximately 25 years, she worked at Samples, Inc. where she assisted with creating sample books for the International Furniture Market. During the last 6 years of her life she was employed part-time at TJ Maxx. Faye was an extremely strong willed person and proved her strength in 2008-2009 as she won her battle with breast cancer. Her strong will allowed her to work 2 jobs after the death of her husband and enabled her to spend numerous hours during the spring and summer months beautifying her yard with flowers and planting seasonal vegetables. She spent much of her free time traveling to Washington, DC and Maryland to spend quality time with her family members. One of Faye’s favorite pastimes was swing dancing with her cousins in Maryland. Listening to soul music and dancing were two of her favorite things to do. She was extremely creative and loved to draw and create things around the house. Faye was a dedicated mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren and her love for them was displayed daily by her tireless efforts to provide and nurture them up until her last days. After a brief 6 month courtship, Faye married Samuel McCombs on Dec. 15, 1972 and remained married for 37 years. In additional to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel C. “Pinky” McCombs and her grandmother, Connie Love Matthews. She is survived by two daughters, Jacques Love and Sandgria McCombs, both of High Point, NC; her parents, John Ray France of High Point and Bobbi Mitchell of Hyattsville, MD; one granddaughter, Latifah Brower of the home; two grandsons, Shaquille Brower of Greensboro, NC and Samuel C. McCombs, II of High Point, NC; four sisters, Mary Ann Wharton and Connie Steele both of Hyattsville, MD, Donna Canty (David) of Thomasville, NC, Stella Reynolds of Winston-Salem, NC and Sandra Rush McQueen who was just like a sister to her; her aunts, Betsy Matthews McFadden of Thomasville, NC, Norma Gray and Dorothy Gilmore both of High Point and Patricia Mitchell of Westchester, PA; Robert France of Orangeburg, SC and David Matthews of Trinity, NC; a brother-in-law, Ronald Harrill (Denise) of Shelby, NC a sister-in-law, Pam Enloe (Kevin) of Cherryville, NC and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and special friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 11:30 AM at First Baptist Church of Trinity, 12504 Trinity Rd. Trinity, NC 27370 with Pastor Lee Bynum officiating. Burial will take place at Piedmont Memorial Gardens in Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 11:30 AM on Saturday. Ms. McCombs will be available for public view from 3:00-5:00 PM on Friday at New Beginnings Church, 215 Fourth St. High Point, NC.
