Johnny Gray Glenn

August 22, 1937 - March 30, 2018

Johnny Gray Glenn, 80, born on August 22, 1937 to the late Josephine and Hubert Glenn in Winston-Salem, NC. Mr. Glenn passed away on Friday, March 30, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Peron, Harold Lee, and Preston; and a son-in-law Ben Jones, Jr. He was a retiree of RJR Archer and Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System Transportation Department; and employed by Sunnyside Ice Company and Gilmore’s Funeral Home. He was a longtime member of Union Baptist Church, Camel City Bowling Club, Phalanx Fraternity, Red Rock Lodge #809 PHA, Eureka Chapter #68 HRAM, Prelate Commandery #10 Knights of Templar, and Sethos Temple #170. He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife, Mattie Coleman Glenn; son, Johnny D. Glenn (Rene Fenty) of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Lisa G. Jones; 2 granddaughters, Tiffani Jones and Janay Glenn; a son of the heart, Frank Walker (Samrwit) of Houston, TX; 2 brother-in-laws, Richard Gray, Sr. and Frederick Coleman; 2 sister-in-laws, Elease Jackson and Gloria Phillips (Tommy); a special niece, Ida Coleman of Gary, Indiana, special cousins, Ophelia Perry and Tony McCullough; devoted nephews, James (Olaine) Smith and Everett Dumas; lifelong friends, Clark and Marilyn Hanner, Elsworth Jessup, and Yvonne and Lester Thompson; along with a host of family and friends. A special thank you to his nurse, Deena; speech therapist, Sarah; and physical therapist, Terry, along with the entire staff at the Hospice Home. A Homegoing Celebration will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday April 7, 2018 at Union Baptist Church with Bishop Sir Walter Mack officiating. The family visitation will be an hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery
