Joseph F. Douthit Jr.

Mr. Joseph F. Douthit, Jr., age seventy-eight, was born to the late Louise Abbott Douthit and Joseph F. Douthit, Sr., on November 27, 1943. He departed this life on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at Country Side Manor Healthcare Facility in Stokesdale, North Carolina following an extended period of illness. Joseph was a 1963 graduate of J.W. Paisley High School and acquired a degree from the University of Washington, D.C. while being fully employed. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army on May 31, 1967. Joseph was employed by the Library of Congress prior to retiring from The Department of Employee Services, both in Washington, D.C. He loved to travel and the baking of cakes. He is survived by: four sisters, Louise (Carl) McCrary of Chillicothe, Ohio, Patricia Douthit Kirby of The Meadows of Rockwell in Rockwell, North Carolina, Brenda (Harold) Anthony of Kernersville, North Carolina, and Debra(Jerry) Wise of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; two brothers, Garnett E.(Forestine) Douthit of Kernersville,North Carolina,and Conrad R. (Shirley) Douthit of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; two aunts,Mrs.Irene Douthit and Mrs.Reba Galloway,both of the city;one uncle, Mr. Bobby(Barbara)Abbott of Clinton, Maryland; aunts Mrs.Mary Abbott of Winston-Salem,N.C.,Mrs.Delores Abbott and Mrs.Faye Abbott both of Maryland and a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews,great-great-nieces and -nephews, other relatives, and friends. God knows we, the offspring of Joseph and Louise Douthit, recognize that it is a blessing that all seven of us, ranging in age from sixty-five to eighty-two, were still living when “Brother”(as we affectionately refer to Joseph) passed away peacefully. Because there have been families with fewer or more siblings with multiple deaths within short periods of time, we thank our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for our recognition of this. We don’t and will not take it for granted that it’s supposed to be that way, and we vow, in honor of our dear Mom, Dad, and Brother, that we will do everything with every fiber of ourbeing to become and remain close to one another during our remaining days on this Earth!
