Deborah Kennedy Crawley

Deborah “Debbie” Kennedy Crawley, of Danbury, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on 5/28/26. She was born on May 16, 1951, in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Debbie lived a life marked by strength and fierce dedication to those she loved and to those in need. Throughout her years, she was a strong voice for those without one. Her passionate spirit, caring nature, and unwavering love for her children and animals will be remembered and cherished always. Debbie embraced the values of compassion, hard work, and perseverance. Despite humble beginnings and spending much of her youth in the Barium Springs Children’s home, Debbie proceeded to graduate from The University of North Carolina in 1972. Thereafter she began her life-long career as a social worker with the Forsyth County Department of Social services where she worked in Child Protective Services, and later, Adult Services, making a difference for many vulnerable children, adults and families for 37 years. In recognition of her unwavering advocacy for those in need throughout her decades of service, Debbie was honored with the Order of The Long Leaf Pine award by NC Governor Pat McCrory in 2014. This award is considered North Carolina’s governor's highest honor and is reserved for persons who have made significant contributions to the state and their communities through their exemplary service and exceptional accomplishments. Following her retirement, her service to her community continued. As a dedicated Meals on Wheels volunteer, Debbie built lasting relationships with her clients and their pets, delivering food, hugs, and smiles. Debbie enjoyed helping others, tennis, politics and spending time with her dogs, cats and parakeet. She is survived by her daughter, Sydney, son, Jordan, daughter-in-law, Elise, and grandchildren, Zoah, Tallulah and Jolly, along with many friends who will miss her dearly. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to FOSS - Friends of Stokes Shelter, Meals on Wheels or the charity of your choice.
