Carl Nelson Williams

October 27, 1957- April 22, 2017 Carl Nelson Williams was born on October 27, 1957 to the late Sophronia and James Williams in Charlotte NC. He departed this life on Saturday, April 22, 2017. He grew up and attended primary school in Dillon SC and Maxton NC before relocating to New York attending Brandeis High School. He was a businessman, mastering many jobs from sanitation, running a Tropicana and little Debbie cakes route, salesman, security supervisor, but best known for detailing cars and running the uptown Charlotte restaurant Lola’s. Carl enjoyed martial arts, horseback riding, and the gun range among other things. When at home relaxing, you would always find a good ole’ western movie playing. On June 13, 1982, he married then Valerie L. Thomas of Mamaroneck NY. Together, they raised 6 beautiful children. In the early 90’s, they relocated their family to Charlotte, NC from New York. He is known affectionately by his grandkids simply as “Pops”. Carl accepted Christ as his personal savior and was ordained as a minster at Second Baptist Freewill Church in Mamaroneck NY. After relocating with his family to Charlotte, he became a member at the Word of Faith Ministries. He loved God’s word and his people. There wasn’t anyone he wouldn’t help if he could. He is loved by many and will surely be missed. He is preceded in death by his parents James and Sophronia Williams, brother Elder James Williams Jr, and Grandmother Flora Jane Manning. He leaves to cherish his memories: The love of his life for 35 years Mrs. Valerie Williams, their children Carl aka Yael Isra, LaStasia, D’Aniel, De’Marcus (Tasha), Princess, & Victoria. Brothers: Alfonso Simpson (Corlis), Alexander Williams, Bill Williams (Pat), Jerry R. Williams, Bobby Purnell, Freddie Lee Purnell, James Purnell (Mary), Leslie Purnell (Sabrina), Charles Purnell (Lula Mae), Roy Purnell (Joanne). Sisters: Donna Williams, Lynn Washington (Kirk), Carol L. Williams, Mary Purnell, Annie Loris Purnell, and Coralene Purnell. Mother-in-Love Pastor Remell Germany, Sisters-in-Love Zina Beth Thomas, TaKesia Morgan, Skye Gnatt. 17 grand-children: Diamond, Madison, Jada, Lashalia, Jamarien, Nadia, DeMarcus, Savyon, Jvyonna, Phillip, Morgan, Lin’Morea, Ken’Nasia, Sir’Lord, Princess Rhea, Zoe, Skai’Lyn.
